Full Job Description

As an Environment Apprentice, you will focus your efforts in promoting our internal environmental programmes and initiatives. You will gain knowledge of a wide range of environmental topics and activities, to support delivery of our environment and sustainability strategy to achieve Net Zero by 2040.

Qualification Requirements

5 GCSEs at grades C/4 or above (or equivalent) including Mathematics and English

Plus:

A-Level:

96 to 120 UCAS tariff points from at least two A-levels or equivalent 2 A-Levels e.g. Geography, Sciences, Geology or Maths (Grade A*-C).

Essential General studies and Native language at both A-Level and AS levels are not accepted in the tariff.

or

BTEC level:

BTEC or equivalent Science or Engineering related (Grade DMM) essential.

or

Access to HE Diploma:

Pass Access to HE Diploma in relevant subjects e.g. Engineering, Science, Business and Maths.

Salary - £20,500 per annum

Working Hours
Monday to Thursday, 9am – 5.25pm. Fridays, 9am – 4.05pm

12pm - 12.45pm lunch break

Duration - 60 months

Start Date - 1st September

Job Description

We are looking for a candidate who will help us change behaviours and further improve our culture to one where working sustainably and thinking about the environmental impact of our activities becomes second nature to everyone working at Pfizer.

Job Responsibilities

Main duties include:

  • Working within the UK environmental, health and safety management system, in particular with a view to preparing Pfizer for compliance with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 (ISO – international organization for standardisation).
  • Assisting the UK environmental, health and safety governance structure, through attendance at Risk Committee meetings, conveying key information and documenting outcomes.
  • Participating in the UK Environment and Sustainability Focus Group, with active involvement in delivery of the UK Communication & Engagement strategy.
  • Partner with peers to manage Sustainability Teams to support the fostering of ideas to enhance our environmental culture
  • Participating in the GWE Sustainability and Wellbeing – Commercial Facilities Workstream, ensuring progression to Net Zero across GWE.
  • Involvement in and development of skills to enabling leading of improvement projects in environmental management.
  • Providing hands-on practical advice, guidance and support to the business across a range of topics, such as Pfizer’s energy efficiency programmes, waste management, risk assessment, incident investigation.
  • Partnering with our Integrated Facilities Management Teams to ensure efficiencies with regards to data reporting and Net Zero progression.
  • Maintenance of environmental, health and safety repositories.
  • Data enquiry and review, including preparation of performance reports for site leaders and legislators to satisfy legislative requirements and identify trends and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Assistance with environmental, health and safety auditing, inspection and monitoring programmes.
  • Compiling promotional communications for topical environmental, health and safety items, for example supporting advance of our environment and sustainability strategy.
  • Participating in the Pfizer environmental, health and safety culture programme.
  • Involvement in and where appropriate opportunity to lead improvement projects in partnership with the My Green Lab community.

Candidate Requirements

Personal Qualities/Skills

  • Good verbal, written and presentation skills.
  • Good soft people skills, with an engaging personality.
  • Confidence to liaise with Pfizer personnel within different departments and different levels of seniority.
  • Ability to interpret data using Microsoft suite of tools to generate creative reports.
  • Enthusiastic and energetic approach with an interest in environmental sustainability.

Training To Be Delivered

Qualification to be delivered: BSc (Hons) Environmental Science

Apprenticeship Standard: Environmental practitioner (degree)

Training Provider: Kingston University

Delivery model: Training will be completed through day release to Kingston University

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will be eligible to apply for other positions within the business.

The apprentice must be able to demonstrate the required attitudes, behaviours and interpersonal skills associated with the professional workplace.
