Assistant Accountant

Role Overview

The Assistant Accountant plays a vital role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the Finance Department. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, assisting in the preparation of management accounts, and ensuring timely processing of transactions. The role supports robust financial reporting and compliance for internal management, trustees, auditors, and external funders.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • AAT Level 3 or 4 qualified (or actively studying for ACCA/CIMA or equivalent).
  • At least 1–3 years’ experience working in a finance or accounting function.
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel (lookups, formulae, data cleansing).
  • Skills & Competencies
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills; ability to meet multiple deadlines.
  • Proactive and self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Clear and professional communication skills—both written and verbal.
  • Comfortable working across teams and liaising with external stakeholders (suppliers, auditors, funders).

This position is based at our HQ in Thetford, Norfolk, although you will be able to work from home part of the time on a hybrid working regime and flexible start and finish times can also be accommodated to ensure a good work-life balance.

  • £33,924 per annum
  • Annual Leave: 25 days per year (plus bank holidays), increasing with service to 26 days after 5 years, 28 days after 10 years, and 30 days after 15 years (pro rata for part-time staff).
