Grease Chemist
Location: Leeds (site-based Laboratory role)
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Type: Permanent, full time
Elevation Recruitment Group are working exclusively with a well-established UK manufacturer operating within the lubricants and speciality chemicals sector. Due to continued growth and investment in product innovation, the business is looking to appoint a Grease Chemist to join their laboratory team, with a strong focus on grease formulation and new product development.
This is a hands-on laboratory position supporting the development, testing, and improvement of industrial grease products. Working closely with the R&D team, you will contribute to both new product development and the optimisation of existing formulations, linking chemical composition to real-world performance. The role will suit someone who enjoys practical lab work, problem solving, and seeing products progress from concept through to manufacture.
Key Responsibilities as a Grease Chemist:
-Formulate and manufacture new and improved grease products at laboratory and pilot scale
-Carry out laboratory testing using recognised industry standards (ASTM, DIN, IP)
-Analyse test data to assess product performance and support quality improvement
-Support investigations into product or customer performance issues, including root cause analysis
-Contribute to short- and long-term R&D projects, ensuring work is delivered on time
-Use laboratory systems including LIMS, SDS authoring tools, and document control software
-Assist with the validation, maintenance, and calibration of laboratory equipment
-Produce clear technical reports and documentation
-Work closely with internal technical and commercial teams
-Attend conferences or external sites as required (UK and occasional overseas travel)
Requirements for the Grease Chemist Role:
-HND, BSc or equivalent qualification in Chemistry or a related discipline
-Practical laboratory experience in formulation or applied chemistry
-Understanding of chemical reactions and material performance
-Strong written and verbal communication skills
-Organised, methodical, and able to manage multiple tasks
-Hands-on, proactive approach with a willingness to learn
-Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel occasionally
-Experience within the lubricants or grease industry
-Exposure to lubricant formulation or performance testing
-Knowledge of tribology and/or rheology (Desirable)
-Commercial awareness and experience working in an industrial environment
