QA Technician

  • Location: West Midlands
  • Job Type: Full-time
  • Salary: C,£30k
  • Hours: 4 on 4 off days, 6am-6pm / Off 6 months per year

We are seeking a dedicated QA Technician to join our Quality Assurance team. This role is crucial for maintaining, verifying, and monitoring our Food Safety and Quality Systems to meet internal, customer, and third-party requirements. The QA Technician will also promote a Quality Culture within the business, ensuring high standards are consistently achieved.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Verification and Monitoring (20%): Carry out verification and monitoring of the production process according to the Quality and Food Safety Plan.
  • Testing and Corrective Actions (20%): Conduct sample collection, testing, and implement relevant corrective actions for shelf life monitoring, microbiological and chemical testing, and organoleptic assessments. Ensure results are recorded accurately.
  • Quality and Food Safety Advocacy (20%): Act as a champion for quality and food safety, maintaining high levels of GMP and GLP, and effectively communicating potential issues. Collaborate with the production team to reduce customer complaints.
  • Traceability and Record Keeping (15%): Ensure traceability throughout the production process and maintain accurate, legible records.
  • Customer Complaint Investigation (15%): Thoroughly investigate customer complaints to identify root causes and collaborate with the production team to implement preventive actions.
  • Equipment Verification (10%): Verify equipment according to the Calibration Plan, maintain records, and report any discrepancies.
  • Record Verification and Filing (10%): Ensure production and QA records are verified and easily retrievable.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Education: Minimum Level 3 Hygiene, Basic Health and Safety, HACCP certification. A degree in Food Science or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience: Experience in a similar role within a manufacturing environment, familiarity with internal auditing, and a strong understanding of site GMO policies.
  • Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), strong communication skills in English, and the ability to work with confidential information.
  • Working Conditions: This role is based on the shop floor with some tasks in the laboratory and administration areas. The environment is fast-moving and highly automated, which may include exposure to noise pollution and other manufacturing hazards.

Challenges:

  • Multitasking: Handling multiple tasks such as raw material testing, on-line quality monitoring, and calibration under time constraints.
  • Problem Solving: Addressing simultaneous issues on production lines, such as equipment malfunctions, which can impact daily tasks.

Working Relationships:

  • Internal: Production, New Product Development (NPD), Warehouse, Hygiene teams.
  • External: Customers, external laboratories, suppliers.
