Applications are invited for a Field Technician to join the Field Experimentation Team at the John Innes Centre based in Norwich, UK.

About the Field Experimentation Team:

The Field Experimentation Team deliver world leading field trials in a range of crops to researchers at the John Innes Centre. The post holder will assist JIC scientists in delivering crop genetics research through growing experiments in a commercial farm environment. They will work in a team of five based in JIC’s state of the art field facility near the village of Bawburgh, Norfolk and surrounded by the JIC owned Church Farm (110 Ha).

The role:

The post holder will assist across all aspects of field operations with an emphasis on small scale manually maintained experiments. They will perform field patrols to monitor for the presence of bird and animal pests that might cause damage to valuable field experiments. The post holder will also be responsible for grounds maintenance at the Field Station and around Church Farm including mowing, strimming, hedge cutting, weeding (manual and by application of appropriate herbicides).

The ideal candidate:

Candidates should have 5 GCSEs A*-C (or equivalent) and previous experience in agriculture or horticulture, with good knowledge of a variety of crops. They must have good computer literacy and communication skills, along with the ability to work flexibly with regard to working hours and weather conditions.

It is essential that candidates are willing to operate an array of field equipment and embrace the need for basic field operations, such as operating a tractor when required.
