GMP Recruitment are proud to be partnered with a hugely successful and highly recognised leading international manufacturer located on the outskirts of Worcester.

We are currently supporting their recruitment for a Graduate Metallurgist to join their successful and fast-growing team on a full time, permanent contract.

This position is working 37.5 hours a week, Monday - Friday offering a salary of £25-30k, pending relevant experience.

In the role of Metallurgist, you will be responsible for metallurgical examination of both production and development parts in line with company requirements and customer specifications. You will ort support other technical requirements of the laboratory including thermal processing, welding, alloy testing requirements, progressing and certifying test material in line with customer specifications and drawings.

We are looking for a recent Graduate who is educated in Metallurgy/Materials Science, at minimum HND and above. This is a great opportunity to join a supportive and encouraging, leading engineering firm.

Graduate Metallurgist main duties:

  • Progress parts/samples through laboratory and to sub-contractors as required and raise necessary reports/certification
  • Completion of metallurgical assessment of surface degradation and HIP closure samples, production and qualification micro examinations and metallurgical investigations.
  • Review of thermal processing documentation
  • Ensure specimens, documentation, and files are correctly identified and stored in the correct areas, including storage/archive, ensuring laboratory scrap levels are controlled, and ensure that logs and noticeboards are maintained and updated.
  • Maintain and improve Lab 6S standards
  • Provide training to Lab personnel when and where required
  • Overcheck and approve certifications and reports (e.g. alloy certifications)
  • Non-routine failure analysis of processed and/or returned products
  • Macrostructure assessment and reporting
  • Welding approvals and assessments
  • Support non-metals testing
  • Support thermal processing, chemical analysis and mechanical testing as required including raising necessary reports and certification, auditing internal departments and sub-contractors as required, progressing parts/samples through laboratory and to sub-contractors and following priorities set by Lab Manager

Graduate Metallurgist desired skills and experience:

  • Degree educated in Metallurgy/Materials Science, at minimum HND or recent experience required
  • Competent in using Microsoft Office packages
  • Strong communication and report writing skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Understanding of metallurgy
  • Preferably experience in examination of weld and fractures
  • Ideally have some technical knowledge of lost wax casting process, and thermal processing and Ni & Co base superalloys
  • Strong time management and ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Ability to streamline processes and reporting for optimised efficiency
