Our vision is to be recognised as a provider of a world-class service for the protection of nuclear material and facilities. Given the critical nature of our work, it’s vital that we recruit skilled and committed professionals to our high-performing team. As Operational Communications Technician, you’ll play a key role in keeping our officers in constant contact.

Our Operational Communications Team ensures that our front-line officers are able to communicate with each other day-to-day, and with other emergency services in the event of an incident. It will be your responsibility to support the team in providing an intelligent delivery function and additional resilience to core activities. The nature of this role demands superb attention to detail and an ability to work in a secure environment.

Your role will be vital to deliver an effective business as usual service capability, as well as getting involved in a variety of projects, including the transition from Airwave to the new Emergency Services Network (ESN). You will plan, implement, and deliver specific work streams and projects, and be responsible for resolving faults and issues relating to devices fitted within vehicles or fixed positions and site-specific and specialist kit and equipment.

The role holder will provide planning, support and delivery activities relating to the Operational Communications Team scope of work, adopting and developing best practices such as ITIL, Lean Six Sigma and Prince 2 and use these to engage in and drive OC workstreams and projects to a successful conclusion.

To join us, you’ll need experience within Radio Engineering (or a related technical field), ideally in an emergency service or similar organisation. Thanks to this background, you’ll know how to install, integrate, and maintain technical radio or communication systems, of which your expertise will be based on a relevant degree, an equivalent vocational qualification or relevant work experience.

In addition, you will demonstrate the ability to capture and document user and technical requirements, as well as have superb communication and team-working skills. A willingness to travel to other sites as required and a full UK driving licence are also crucial, as some of our sites are in remote locations.

Above all, you’ll be making sure that our technology meets strict security requirements and complies with licence terms, both now and in the future.

As police staff the public expect us to display the highest standards, values, and professional qualities at all times. The CNC values and Code of Ethics applies to all police staff and sets out the principles and standards of behaviour we expect to see, and you are responsible for displaying and delivering these to the highest standards.
