Cogent Skills is working with Kemira Chemicals (UK) Ltd to recruit an Apprentice Lab Technician to work at its production plant in Goole. We are looking for a motivated individual with an interest in and passion for science and the desire to achieve a professionally recognised qualification as a Lab Technician.

Qualification Requirements
5 GCSE’s (or equivalent) grade A*-C (4-9) including Maths and English and Science are desirable. The apprentice must also be either exempt or capable of achieving level 2 Maths and English (GCSE or functional skills) prior to taking end-point assessment.

Salary - £17,500 per annum

Location - Goole, Yorkshire

Working Hours
Monday to Friday, 08:30am - 16:30pm with a 1 hour unpaid lunch break, when not on day release to training provider.

Duration - 24 months

Start Date - March/April 2025

Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity at our Goole manufacturing site, to work in the newly refurbed QC labs supporting production. We are looking for a motivated individual with an interest in and passion for science and the desire to achieve a professionally recognised qualification as a Lab Technician.

As a member of our quality and control department, you will support the lab staff and Technical Manager. You will offer day to day support for lab staff in the preparation of test samples and recording of test results. To provide quality control support to the manufacturing departments. While undertaking an online training courses.

Duties

  • Maintain a high standard of safety and housekeeping in the laboratory
  • Perform analysis on products, according to defined analytical methods and standard operating procedures
  • Coordinating with and Manufacturing on QC
  • Preparation samples to external Lab for Quarterly test and customers
  • Record and report analytical results to QC staff
  • Maintain levels of laboratory reagents and consumables
  • Arrange for correct disposal of laboratory waste
  • Maintain Lab chemical stocks
  • Review & Maintain Lab COSHH & SOP Methods

Qualification to be delivered: Level 3 Certificate BTEC in Applied Science

Apprenticeship Standard: Laboratory Technician

Training Provider: Cogent Skills Training

Delivery model: Blended (Mixture of online and in-person learning and assessment)


Future Prospects

This role is part of our talent planning for the future and, for the right person, we are looking to continue to develop the Apprentice upon successful completion of the Apprenticeship. Subject to satisfactory completion of the Apprenticeship, candidates will be considered for any available permanent positions.

Things To Be Considered

You cannot already have a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science.

Kemira Chemicals UK Ltd and Cogent Skills are working together to deliver this Apprenticeship. The successful candidate will be employed by Cogent Skills but will be based at the host employer offices at Goole.

You must be willing and able to travel to the place of work (and local college/training provider) to meet the work times stated. Please ensure you check out travel options to be able to commute to the workplace.

Times of work may vary and may, on occasion, require a limited amount of overtime.

Please be aware, any offer of employment will be subject to a pre-employment medical which will include a drug and alcohol screening.
