What will you do? Make an impact!

Main purpose of job:
Health Physics provides radiological monitoring services at the workface within the nuclear industry to protect people, plant and the environment from the adverse effects of ionising radiation and contamination. The Apprentice Health Physics Surveyor will undergo a two-year training programme using specialist equipment to undertake measurements of radiation dose rates and contamination levels in a variety of situations, involving plant and personnel. You will interpret these measurements in order to provide radiological protection advice to facility operators, project managers, and the Site Leadership Team. Acting with diplomacy and confidence, you will need to have effective communication skills and be comfortable working with numbers and completing calculations. This role is critical to ensuring safe operations in both normal and incident situations, including potential emergencies. The role requires a high level of attention to detail and accuracy both recording and interpreting radiological measurements. You will also be part of the Site Emergency Response Team (SERT).

You will earn the follow qualifications:
Level 2 Nuclear Health Physics Monitor Apprenticeship (HM Government).
Level 2 Certificate in Health Physics Monitoring in the Nuclear Industry (Theory)(NcFN).
Tradebe will also support you to gain membership of the Society for Radiological Protection (SRP).

Your responsibilities will include:
* The Apprentice Health Physics Surveyor will provide day-to-day operational advice in the area of radiological protection, reporting to the site Health Physics Supervisor and the site Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA).
* The surveyor will monitor radiation levels and prepare short Health Physics technical surveys, reports, presentations and data in an understandable manner in order to support decision-making by the Inutec Management Team.
* You will work with other technical project specialists to share findings and identify early emerging trends to develop a holistic picture of issues, concerns, good practice and areas for improvement in SSHEQ culture and performance.
* You will help assure that specialist Operational Health Physics advice provided is proportionate and ensures compliance with ONR and EA regulatory requirements.
* You will follow through on advice provided to ensure that it is implemented in a way that provides a practical solution to the original problem identified.

Do you have what it takes?

* Minimum of 3 GCSEs Grade 4 (Grade C) in Mathematics, English Language and one Science or Engineering subject. Other equivalent qualifications or experience may be considered.
* A-Level in scientific discipline (preferred)
* Two-Year apprenticeship commitment
