Lonza have several Biotechnologist positions available for candidates at the introductory or experienced level positions. The Biotechnologist will be encouraged to acquire and apply the skills used in a GMP Manufacturing environment, advancing from supervised to unsupervised activities.

Qualification Requirements

Candidates must hold a BSc degree in either:

  • Biochemical/Chem Engineering
  • Biology/Biological Science
  • Biochemistry
  • Biotechnology
  • Genetics
  • Biochemistry/Chemistry
  • Pharmaceutical Science

Salary - £29,000 per annum

15% shift allowance – day shift

35% shift allowance - night shift

Working Hours

The day shift working pattern is on a two week rolling pattern, where we work 7 days in 14, working 1 weekend every other week. Below is a visual indicator.

Week 1 Mon Tues ON (Weds & Thurs Off) Fri, Sat & Sun ON

Week 2 Mon Tues OFF Weds & Thurs ON Fri, Sat & Sun OFF

The day starts at 6am and finishes at 6pm, with 15 mins breakfast break and an hour for lunch. The breaks are not paid, so the team members are paid 10.75 hours per day.

The weekly hours pro rata are 37.62 hours per week

The nightshift working pattern is 4 days on and 4 days off. Below is a visual indicator.

Week 1 Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon, ON (Tues, Wed, Thu, Fri OFF)

Week 2 Sat, Sun, Mon, Tues ON (Wed, Thur, Fri, Sat OFF)

Duration -  Temp to Perm

You will be given a 1 year fixed term contract with opportunity to move onto a permanent contract with Lonza

Job Responsibilities

Key Accountabilities and Duties:

  • Ensure products are manufactured at the Slough UK facility in compliance with schedule, safety requirements, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Strictly adhere to production timelines and protocols to deliver flawless results.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless and efficient operations.

Training:

  • Acquire an in-depth understanding of the production systems and the relevant Lonza systems to enable efficient production.
  • Responsible for maintaining own training and ensure full training has taken place in all aspects of the production activities according to Cornerstone.
  • Continuously seek opportunities for personal and professional development to contribute positively to the team's goals.

Quality Systems:

  • Ensure that high standards of cGMP are adhered to both for self and others.
  • Gain familiarity with Lonza quality procedures such as change control, the deviation system, and validation procedures.
  • Assist in batch disposition activities, including corrections and DataMart.
  • Commit to outstanding quality standards and contribute to Lonza's reputation for excellence.

Documentation:

  • Ensure that high standards of documentation completion are adhered to both for self and others.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records to support flawless traceability and compliance.
  • Participate in audits and inspections, providing necessary documentation and information.

Plant and Process:

  • Direct involvement in the manufacturing process.
  • Identify any continuous improvements to the process/equipment and help with the completion of projects.
  • Implement proven methodologies to improve production efficiency and product quality.

Area Ownership:

  • Ensure high standards of housekeeping are adhered to.
  • Ensure that team values are adhered to.
  • Ensure that the appropriate safety policies and systems are adhered to.
  • Highlight safety issues in the area and instil a safety attitude in the team.
  • Ensure that objectives given are met in the appropriate timescale.
  • Drive for results.
  • Take ownership of your workspace, ensuring it reflects Lonza's dedication to excellence.
