Full Job Description

Do you want to help develop and deliver programmes that have positive social and environmental impact? If so, Pfizer is recruiting a corporate responsibility and sustainability practitioner apprentice. This role will allow you to develop a wide range of skills and to improve your knowledge of external communications, corporate responsibility, Environment, Social & Governance (ESG), diversity and inclusion within the pharmaceutical industry.

Qualification Requirements

  • 5 GCSEs at grades C/4 or above (or equivalent) including mathematics and English.
  • You must have gained a minimum of 80 UCAS points from a minimum of 2 A-level subjects or equivalent.

Salary - £18,000 per annum

Working Hours

Monday to Thursday, 9am – 5:25pm with 45 minute lunch break.

Fridays, 9am – 4:05pm with 45 minute lunch break

Job Description

The role of the Global Health & Social Impact (GHSI) team is to develop and implement strategic social impact and environmental sustainability programmes that drive positive impact in the community.

This role will also work closely with our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) steering group to develop and deliver on our DEI strategy.

Through these corporate social responsibility activities, we support Pfizer’s corporate purpose of ‘Breakthroughs that change patients lives’ and have a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of our internal and external communities.

The GHSI team is part of the wider Corporate Affairs function at Pfizer which includes our Policy and Public Affairs team, Media and Communications team and Patient Advocacy team.

This role will allow you to develop a wide range of skills and to improve your knowledge of external communications, corporate responsibility, Environment, Social & Governance (ESG), diversity and inclusion and the pharmaceutical industry.

Core responsibilities

With guidance and support from the GHSI team, you will:

Help support the development and smooth running of the Pfizer UK corporate responsibility programmes, including project managing our volunteering partnerships; managing our payroll giving and matched funding programme, delivering elements of our health inequalities programme; gathering evidence and insights to inform our strategy.

  • Contribution to the development of GHSI communications (internal and external).
  • Help to manage third party suppliers.
  • Supporting the team to engage with other Pfizer UK sites and internal stakeholders.

With guidance and support from the DEI Steering Group:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key external partners.
  • Coordinate and manage the process for external awards.
  • Support the strategic planning and execution of internal and external events and partnership initiatives.
  • Monitor and report on the progress and outcomes of partnership activities.
  • Work closely with internal teams on communications.

Beyond the day-to-day role, you will also have the opportunity to:

  • Attend global and regional GHSI team meetings
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the wider corporate affairs team including patient advocacy, external communications and policy & public affairs to gain experience in the cross functional landscape
  • Attend external events where possible and relevant
  • Work closely with industry leading external agencies

Candidate Requirements

Personal Skills and Qualities

  • Excellent project management skills, including planning and prioritisation of multiple tasks
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • IT literacy including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc
  • Able to use logical and creative thinking to solve problems and make decisions
  • Stakeholder management skills (Ability to deal with people at all levels)
  • Interest in sustainability, corporate social responsibility and ESG Ability to use own initiative or with others on tasks with minimum supervision
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn new things and be proactive in approach
  • Able to work in a team and motivate other people and achieving results through other people

Future Prospects

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will be eligible to apply for other positions within the business.

This role will give you a wide range of transferable skills and experiences as well as specific knowledge of and experience in the development and delivery of Corporate Responsibility and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in a large UK business.

This experience can lead to a wide variety or careers within corporate affairs, communications, CSR, DEI and HR and beyond.

Things To Be Considered

The apprentice must be able to demonstrate the required attitudes, behaviours and interpersonal skills associated with the professional workplace. The apprentice must be willing to commit an amount of personal time to study. Please ensure you check out travel options to be able to commute to the workplace.
