Environmental Chemist (Waste Management)

Hours: Monday to Friday 40 hours per week - there will be a shift pattern therefore flexibility to work AM and PM shifts is essential.  Salary: £28,000 - £30,160 per annum dependant on experience Plus shift allowance when working PM shift.

Day-to-day duties: As a Environmental Chemist (Waste Management)  your duties will include (but not be limited to):

  • Accept and inspect incoming hazardous and non-hazardous waste in line with permits and legislation.
  • Verify consignment and Duty of Care paperwork for accuracy and compliance.
  • Conduct safety checks before waste acceptance and complete sampling for analysis.
  • Record waste acceptance, routing and non-conformances using the SAP system.
  • Segregate, label and store waste safely according to compatibility and environmental permits.
  • Support waste processing activities – bulking, sorting, and repacking as required.
  • Collaborate with chemists, site operatives and management to maintain operational efficiency.
  • Promote high standards of health, safety, and environmental awareness across the site.

Essential skills: To be successful as an Environmental Chemist , you will need:

  • HNC, Degree, or equivalent qualification in Chemistry or related field – essential.
  • Previous experience in waste management, chemical handling, or environmental services – desirable.
  • Working knowledge of hazardous waste regulations, COSHH, and environmental compliance.
  • Confident interpreting technical data, safety documentation, and inspection reports.
  • Hands-on approach and willingness to work outdoors in an operational environment.

Desirable experience:

  • IT literacy (SAP experience advantageous but not essential).

Training: Full training will be provided, with ongoing development support.
