Full Job Description

As a Graduate Process Development Engineer, you will be a part of the R&D function within the Engineering team at the site in Latham. This role will involve R&D, Process Development, NPI and Global Travel.

Located in Ormskirk, Lancashire, this major European technical centre serves as a hub for advanced Manufacturing and Production research, development, and manufacturing excellence. The site hosts cutting-edge innovation in glass systems, glazing products, and photovoltaic technologies, supporting a wide range of industrial and architectural applications.

The facility is also powered in part by a large 2.29MW solar installation developed by Lightsource BP, which supplies around 30% of its annual electricity demand. This renewable energy investment significantly reduces operational carbon emissions-around 848 tonnes annually-and reflects an ongoing commitment to sustainability and low-carbon manufacturing practices.

With its blend of R&D capability, technical expertise, and sustainability leadership, the centre plays a crucial role in shaping next-generation glass technology for global markets.

Description

As the Graduate Process Development Engineer you will be tasked with the following;

  • Use hands-on measurement techniques and data analysis to identify trends in glass bending processes.
  • Support improvements in glass quality, process stability, and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Apply innovative thinking and problem-solving to contribute to the development of new products and processes.
  • Conduct practical development activities to deepen understanding of the full shaping and bending process.
  • Assist in controlling key quality parameters, ensuring products meet performance standards.
  • Work on R&D projects via the stage-gate project system, contributing to structured development cycles.
  • Collaborate within small project teams and alongside global R&D colleagues.
  • Engage cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, and other support functions.
  • Build technical knowledge to support the Shaping Technology team's ongoing process improvement goals.

Profile

A successful Graduate Process Development Engineer should have:

* PhD or Master's degree in a Physical Science or Material/Mechanical Engineering.

* Ability to think analytically and have proven data analysis skills. * Strong communication skills.

* Possess a willingness to solve problems in a practical way. * Have an interest in technological developments and innovation.

* Be focussed on customer needs and expectations.

* Experience of working in industrial manufacturing and/or process/product development would be desirable but not essential.

* European foreign language skills would be an advantage, but not necessary.
