Full Job Description

A well-established and growing decentralised energy business is seeking a Junior Electrical Engineer to join its service team in the North West of the UK. The company is a recognised manufacturer and service provider of combined heat and power (CHP) systems, delivering efficient, low-carbon energy solutions to industrial, commercial, and public sector clients across the UK.
This role would suit a recently qualified Electrical Engineer, or a junior engineer with experience in power generation, generators, switchgear, or industrial electrical systems who is looking to build a long-term career within the CHP sector.
This is a field-based position offering a mix of planned maintenance, reactive fault finding, commissioning support, and technical assistance — backed by an experienced and supportive engineering team.
Responsibilities:

  • Travel to customer sites across the North West to support servicing and first-response breakdowns on CHP and engine-based power systems
  • Assist with planned and reactive electrical maintenance, including diagnostics and fault rectification
  • Support senior engineers with commissioning activities and system upgrades
  • Produce clear and detailed service reports, identifying faults and recommended remedial actions
  • Liaise with customers and internal teams to ensure professional and efficient service delivery
  • Provide technical support to colleagues and contribute to the wider engineering team
  • Support internal and customer training activities where required
  • Maintain high health & safety standards, including completion of risk assessments and method statements
  • Act as a professional representative of the business on customer sites

Requirements:

  • HNC/HND, NVQ Level 3, apprenticeship, or degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • Some practical experience in industrial electrical systems, generators, CHP, switchgear, or control panels
  • Basic electrical fault-finding capability with a willingness to develop advanced diagnostic skills
  • Familiarity with control systems or PLCs (training provided if required)
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Ability to work independently in the field while maintaining strong communication with office-based teams
  • Positive, proactive attitude with strong customer-facing skills
  • Willingness to travel across the North West and occasionally stay away from home

Package & Benefits:

  • Competitive salary, depending on experience
  • £10 per day lunch allowance
  • Company vehicle with optional private use
  • Paid overtime and overnight stay allowances
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
  • Structured training and development programme, including manufacturer-led CHP training
  • Clear progression pathway into Senior Electrical Engineer roles
  • Long-term, stable role within a supportive and technically focused organisation

If you’re a junior electrical engineer looking to develop your career within the growing decentralised energy sector in the North West, this is an excellent opportunity to gain specialist training and long-term progression.
