Job Purpose
The Laboratory Chemist will be responsible for chemical analysis of raw materials, process samples, and finished steel, cobalt and Nickel alloy products. The role ensures that all testing supports production quality, process control, and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Chemical & Physical Analysis
- Familiar with sample preparation techniques for chemical testing using cutting, milling, and grinding machines.
- Perform chemical analysis of molten metal samples for process control using optical emission spectrometry.
- Also gas analysis and carbon-sulfur analysis using IR combustion.
- Analyse raw materials (incoming scrap, ferroalloys, Co alloys Ni alloys) for chemical composition and suitability.
- Monitor inclusion content, cleanliness, and homogeneity of steel (macro preparation)
Quality Assurance Support
- Ensure that laboratory testing aligns with national/international standards.
- Verify compliance of steel, Co and Ni grades with customer specifications before dispatch.
- Produce certification for the dispatch of material.
- Support production teams by providing rapid test results for process adjustments.
Safety, Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain proper documentation of test results, calibration records, and equipment maintenance.
- Including SOP’s and TPM.
- Ensure laboratory practices comply with AS9100D quality management systems and safety protocols.
Qualifications & Experience
- 2–7 years of experience in a similar laboratory environment.
- Hands-on experience in optical emission spectrometry and Leco.
- Familiarity with steel grades
- Knowledge of quality standards (ISO, ASTM, IS codes) is preferred.
Skills Required
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail in testing and reporting.
- Proficiency in chemical analysis techniques and instruments (optical emission spectrometry and IR combustion.
- Good communication skills to coordinate with production and quality teams.
- Ability to work in a high-pressure, fast-paced industrial environment.

- Accuracy and reliability of laboratory test results.
- Timely support to production for process control.
- Equipment uptime and adherence to calibration schedules.
- Compliance with safety and quality standards.
