Are you a graduate or recent graduate in the microbiology or biology related field. As a microbiologist you will be part of a global organisation where your primary role is to support all company areas (R&D / plant sites) to achieve and maintain microbial free status. As microbiologist you would support a microbial testing service, and independently plan and execute technical work program. As a biologist with a key background in microbiology you would lead technical projects and apply Microbiology expertise effectively to solve customer problems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform microbiological analysis of raw materials, in process products and finished goods.
  • Conduct Biocide Efficacy testing studies in support of the business.
  • Culture collection development and maintenance.
  • To support the business with microbial safety and quality issues.
  • Support with timely investigation of customer complaints and other sources of nonconforming work.
  • Carry out Plant hygiene audits in order to identify processes, practices, equipment and raw materials that contribute to microbial contamination.
  • Plan and execute project work to develop application and knowledge.
  • Liaise with internal and external contacts as necessary to track and communicate service activity status.
  • Develop and maintain awareness in relevant technical fields.
  • Provide technical support to operations, R&D, sales, quality and regulatory as required.
  • Sample log in and reporting using LIMS system.
  • Ensure compliance with Health and safety programs by pro-actively identifying, reporting on and improving safety related issues in the local laboratory area.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
  • Order goods and services, with approvals, using SAP.

Qualifications and Skills.

  • Degree in Microbiology, Biological sciences, Biotechnology (Biology, Biochemistry)
  • where serval microbiology related modules / or degree project have been undertaken
  • Full training given but any practical work from university project or a placement year desirable
  • Or commercial experience - very desirable
  • (Pouring agar plates, swab tests etc)
  • Desirable - Microbiology experience in a Class II Microbiology Laboratory in the food, pharmaceutical or chemical industry
  • Familiarity with Good Laboratory Practice and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)
  • Any knowledge desirable of preservative efficacy testing, testing for biocides, Supporting bioburden or challenge tests.
  • Experience of working in an accredited laboratory (ISO 17025)
