Production Operative

Location: Starley Way, Marston Green, Birmingham (B37 7HF)

Compensation: £16.00 per hour

Shift Pattern: Day work in a fast-paced environment

Role Overview

We are seeking a safety-conscious and dependable Production Operative to join our team at our Birmingham facility. This is a critical role in a fast-moving, high-hazard environment (COMAH site). You will be responsible for the safe handling, sorting, and movement of gas cylinders, ensuring operational efficiency while adhering to strict safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cylinder Management: Execute the safe and efficient sorting of gas cylinders using dedicated sort stands.

  • Logistics & Loading: Operate a 2.5-ton Counterbalance Forklift Truck (FLT) to unload cylinders and banks from vehicles, organizing them into designated bays.

  • Operational Support: Assist Senior Plant Operators and the Facility Manager with day-to-day yard duties and general housekeeping to maintain a high standard of site safety.

  • Reporting: Accurately record data on operational documents to support site KPI reporting.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all activities strictly comply with both company health and safety policies and government regulations.

What You Bring to the Team

  • Certification: A current, valid FLT Counterbalance License (minimum 2.5T) is essential.

  • Safety Mindset: A "Safety-First" attitude with the confidence to utilize "STOP for Safety" authority when necessary.

  • Physical Capability: Good health and physical fitness are required for the manual handling of gas cylinders, pallets, and straps.

  • Experience: Previous experience in chemical, mechanical, or high-hazard industrial environments is preferred.

  • Professionalism: A flexible approach to operational needs, excellent punctuality, and the ability to work effectively within a unionized environment.

  • Teamwork: Strong communication skills and the ability to manage your own time while contributing to a small, collaborative team.
