Quality Control Laboratory Technician - Night Shift

Irlam, Manchester

c£28,000 + shift allowance

Working hours 10pm-6am

As a Laboratory Technician, you will carry out both routine and non-routine quality control analysis, directly contributing to the verification of incoming raw materials, in-process testing, and comprehensive final product analysis. This role will operate in support of a manufacturing plant environment which runs on a 24 hour basis with you providing weekday night shift analytical support to the team between Monday 10pm and Saturday 6am (there is a weekend shutdown).

What you’ll do:

The role is going to be mostly a laboratory based job which provides analytical data to the wider team. This will be analysis of a range of chemical products that are getting manufactured such as surfactants the role will be to give that detailed raw material, in process and final product testing. Fundamentally so the plant knows that it is using material that’s correct, that their processes are working and that the final product is as-intended. The core lab techniques are:

  • High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and Gas Chromatography (GC) (this will be the most commonly used two, also there will be)
  • Colorimetric and potentiometric titrations
  • Karl Fischer moisture analysis and Loss on Drying
  • pH and Specific Gravity measurements
  • Brookfield Viscosity determinations
  • Ion Chromatography
  • Fourier-Transform Infrared (FTIR) and Ultraviolet (UV) Spectroscopy

Your background:

We are seeking a candidate who can come from a range of backgrounds in chemistry or related as training will be provided on the equipment. We are conscious the role holder will need to be arriving by 10pm and finishing work at 6am so ideally drives, or lives very close by to the site in Irlam.

We are seeking either a graduate or someone qualified via experience. Again this role doesn’t necessarily require industrial experience but the role will involve HPLC and GC analysis so skills in this area or alignment with this is advantageous. You will need to be comfortable working on a night shift basis naturally.

  • Communication Skills:Exhibits excellent written and verbal communication abilities. If you have worked while studying and had interactions with the general public for example this will be interesting to hear about!
  • Multitasking Capability:Proficiently manages multiple tasks concurrently within a dynamic environment.
  • Administrative:Good administration, planning, organisational, and time-keeping proficiencies.

This full-time position operates on a 40-hour work week. Initial training will be conducted during standard day shifts (8:00 AM - 4:00 PM) so you will initially start on days then then move onto night shifts.
