Job Title: R&D Lab Technician

Barnoldswick, Lancashire, BB18 5HP

  • Permanent, Part-time
  • Monday – Thursday, 9 am – 5 pm; Friday, 9 am – 4:30 pm (34.5 hours per week)
  • £22,000 - £24,000 per annum (dependent upon experience)

FILTROX Carlson Ltd has its origins in 1923 – established as Carlson Ltd by John C Carlson – and has been located in Barnoldswick since 1950. Since 1988, we have been part of the FILTROX Group, headquartered in Switzerland, with a global workforce of approximately 280 employees.

We are experts in depth filtration of valuable liquids and have built a strong position in the global market for filter equipment and filter media. From the whisk(e)y, wine, and brewing industries to the clarification of fruit juices and filtration in the pharmaceutical, chemical, and food industries, we develop, produce, and distribute a wide range of products for all applications. Operating from our facility in Barnoldswick, we supply our products not only across the UK but also to over 130 countries through an extensive network of agents and dealers.

About the Role

We’re seeking an R&D Lab Technician to join our small and friendly team. You’ll support group-wide R&D projects, focusing on developing new products and conducting fundamental research in the liquid filtration industry. Your work will have real-world applications in food and beverage, frying oil, and life sciences sectors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct R&D project work across areas such as frying oil, activated carbon, and spirits filtration.
  • Perform filtration performance testing and lab-scale filter media production.
  • Analyze frying oil samples and support prototype production trials.
  • Carry out lab assessments for frying studies and assist with field trial analyses.
  • Develop new products, raw materials, and technologies.
  • Provide technical support to global marketing, sales, and production teams.
  • Maintain lab equipment and consumable stocks.
  • Ensure thorough data recording and documentation.
  • Collaborate with other departments and uphold excellent housekeeping standards.

The Ideal Candidate

We’re looking for someone with a hands-on, practical approach to development work and field trials. The ideal candidate will be organized, commercially aware, and focused on delivering results.

  • A BSc in a scientific field or equivalent qualification (preferred but not essential).
  • Laboratory experience in research or product development within the manufacturing industry is advantageous.
