Science Technician
We are seeking a dedicated Science Technician to join our dynamic Science department. This role is crucial in providing efficient and effective support in accordance with the school's objectives, policies, and procedures. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in science and a commitment to maintaining safety and quality in education.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Responsible for the provision of support services to the Science department, ensuring compliance with health and safety guidelines.
- Assist in practical lessons and examinations, providing necessary health and safety guidance based on CLEAPSS advice.
- Research, practice, and demonstrate new experiments for classroom lessons.
- Prepare solutions, assemble and modify apparatus, and manage the maintenance and repair of resources.
- Conduct risk assessments for technician activities and carry out safety audits on laboratories and prep rooms.
- Manage the delivery and maintenance of equipment and textbooks, ensuring their good condition.
- Handle orders, check deliveries, and manage stock takes of chemicals and equipment.
- Liaise with local schools for the borrowing and lending of equipment and chemicals.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of health and safety requirements to support staff and students effectively.
- Participate in the school’s appraisal system and undertake all required training.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- GCSE (grade A* - C) or equivalent in English, Maths, and Science.
- Experience working in a laboratory or similar environment, preferably within a school setting.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with students and colleagues.
- Ability to work constructively as part of a team and independently.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to operate a range of ICT equipment.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and adherence to the highest standards of child protection and safeguarding.
Desirable:
- Further/Higher Qualification in a Science-related discipline or NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Laboratory and Associated Technical Activities.
- Basic Health and Safety Certificate.
- First Aid Training.
- DBS on the Update Service
