Working Hours: 4 on 4 off (days and nights)

Elevation Recruitment are proud to be supporting a well-established manufacturing business in Mexborough as they look to recruit a Hygiene Lead Operative to join their team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced hygiene professional to step into a lead position, taking responsibility for maintaining high standards of cleanliness, food safety, and team performance within a fast-paced production environment.

The Role

Reporting into the Hygiene Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring the site meets strict hygiene, GMP, and audit standards, while leading and supporting a team of Hygiene Operatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and support a team of hygiene operatives on shift, acting as the first point of contact
• Ensure the site is cleaned in line with daily and deep cleaning schedules
• Maintain high standards of health & safety, hygiene, and food safety compliance
• Plan and organise workloads to maximise efficiency and minimise downtime
• Carry out return-to-work interviews, performance reviews, and basic disciplinary processes
• Ensure all team members are fully trained, including chemical awareness and safe systems of work
• Monitor staffing levels and coordinate agency labour where required
• Work closely with engineering, production, and technical teams to ensure smooth operations
• Maintain accurate records for audit, due diligence, and traceability purposes
• Oversee cleaning materials, chemicals, and PPE to ensure availability and compliance
• Support environmental initiatives, ensuring waste is managed in line with company procedures

About You

• Previous experience within a hygiene or cleaning role in a manufacturing or food environment
• Experience leading or supervising a team is highly desirable
• Strong understanding of health & safety and hygiene standards
• Confident communicator with the ability to work across multiple departments
• Well organised with the ability to plan, prioritise, and work under pressure
• Proactive approach with a focus on continuous improvement
