About the Role
Our Client are seeking a reliable and mechanically minded Boiler House Operative to join their team in a potion located at Basingstoke Hospital. This is a hands-on, site-based role responsible for the daily operation, monitoring, and basic maintenance of boiler plant systems within a critical healthcare environment.
You will work as part of a small on-site team, ensuring that all boiler house systems are operating safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory standards. The role includes participation in a rota covering weekends, bank holidays, and on-call duties.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out daily regulatory and operational checks on boiler house equipment
- Monitor and maintain:
- 2 x steam boilers
- 3 x LTHW (Low Temperature Hot Water) boilers
- Record energy meter readings accurately
- Conduct routine water sampling and basic water quality checks
- Ensure boilers, pumps, and associated systems are running correctly
- Monitor and check chemical dosing systems
- Identify and report faults or irregularities promptly
- Assist with basic fault finding and troubleshooting
- Maintain accurate records and logbooks for compliance purposes
- Work in accordance with site health & safety procedures
Working Pattern & Overtime
- Standard hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm
- On-call rota:£150 per week on-call allowance - Additional payment for call-outs
Weekend & Bank Holiday Working:
- Daily checks required 7 days per week (rota-based)
- Saturday & Sunday checks paid as: 4 hours @ 1.66x standard hourly rate
- Bank Holiday checks paid as:4 hours @ 1.66x standard hourly rate Plus 1 additional day of holiday entitlement
- All weekend checks and call-outs are completed on a rotational basis within the team
- You will be working as part of a team of 2 on-site engineers
- Collaborative working is essential to ensure full site coverage and compliance
Person Specification Experience & Knowledge
- Previous experience working with boilers or in a plant/maintenance environment is desirable
- Basic understanding of steam and LTHW systems preferred
- Experience with mechanical systems, pumps, or industrial equipment advantageous

- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Ability to carry out routine checks methodically and accurately
- Basic fault-finding skills
- Good record-keeping and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Flexible and reliable approach to working hours and rota commitments
