Your new company
Our client is an independent, British paint manufacturer, committed to the socially and environmentally responsible production of high quality paints which are renowned for their paints' depth of colour - undertones that subtly change in different lights, providing real character and definition. The more complex the pigmentation, the more interesting the colour and as such, each formulation contains reassuringly high pigment levels (over 40% more pigment than many ordinary paints).
Your new role
Our client is looking for an experienced paint Chemist, ideally, with an understanding of the decorative paint market, to join their team in the North West. Reporting to the Technical Director, the candidate will be required to carry out work in the areas of Research and Development, improvement, testing and troubleshooting, maintenance and evaluation of products, sourcing and testing raw materials, manufacturing procedures, test procedures, quality systems, R&D systems and documentation. Some knowledge of Colour Physics would be very useful.
- ·To plan a pilot plant and scale up of products from laboratory trials through to the handover into the production facility.
- ·To develop new formulations and produce samples.
- ·To assist in the routine operations at the R&D Laboratory.
- ·To analyse and evaluate raw materials and competitor products.
- ·Investigate and formulate improvement of products and manufacturing processes and assist with their implementation.
- ·Investigate and formulate solutions to problems in production, laboratory and the field, make recommendations to the Technical Manager, and liaise with other staff in remedying problems.
- ·To develop an understanding of research, produce reports (verbal and written) to the Technical Director, and to communicate the results of research.
- ·To become familiar with and actively support all provisions of the Quality System appropriate to the responsibility of this position.
- ·Colour matching and Quality Control of colour collateral would be an advantage.
What you'll need to succeed
- ·Experience in Surface Coatings, preferably decorative paints
- ·A degree or higher science qualification (HNC or relevant industry experience)
- ·Understanding of the decorative paint market
- ·Proven problem-solving experience, preferably in the coatings industry
