Full Job Description
An opportunity has arisen for junior development chemists to join a well-established organisation base in the southeast of London. Reporting directly to the Technical Support Manager/R&D Manager.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related discipline
- Minimum two years' laboratory experience.
- Experience with use of lab equipment such as: FTIR, rheometer, tensometer, impactor and cathodic disbondment testers.
- Strong IT skills (Microsoft Office, Teams, and similar software).
- Experience managing projects and meeting deadlines.
- Strong analytical, organisational, and communication skills.
- Ability to interpret data and prepare clear technical reports.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision.
- Flexible, proactive, and willing to undertake further training.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work safely at all times, following Health & Safety procedures and maintaining good laboratory housekeeping.
- Comply with company management systems, including ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, and support the Environmental Management System.
- Plan and deliver laboratory projects, including designing experiments, analysing data, preparing reports, and presenting findings.
- Develop and improve products, formulations, specifications, and test methods.
- Investigate competitor products, customer feedback, and support factory optimisation trials.
- Provide technical support for raw materials, production, quality control, sales, and customer enquiries.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and analytical testing methods.
- Identify risks, opportunities, and non-conformities, supporting continuous improvement.
- Assist with internal audits and the preparation of H&S documentation, including Safety Data Sheets, COSHH, and Risk Assessments (training provided).
- Represent the company on relevant industry committees and undertake other duties as required.
Desirable
- Knowledge of anti-corrosion coatings and sealants.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
- Knowledge of ASTM, ISO, NACE, or related industry standards.
- Experience preparing or reviewing Safety Data Sheets, COSHH assessments, and Risk Assessments.
