Trainee Chemical Engineer

Up to £32,000 DOE with great company benefits

We’re recruiting a Chemical Gas Quality Engineer to join a specialist team providing inspection, calibration and testing services to customers in the energy and power industries across the UK

Ideally you will have am understanding of gas chromatographs. A strong foundation in maths and science, practical aptitude and a willingness to learn are key. An understand of with full technical training provided, this is an opportunity to develop valuable expertise while working on customer sites across the UK, offshore and internationally.

You’ll join a business where technical expertise, quality and customer service are central to its approach. Working alongside experienced specialists, you’ll develop your knowledge through a combination of practical site work, data analysis and technical reporting.

The role based in Uttoxeter and travelling regularly to customer sites, you’ll evaluate gas measurement equipment and help customers understand how their systems are performing.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out performance evaluations of gas chromatographs in accordance with ISO 10723:2012.
  • Undertaking inspections of associated gas quality measurement systems within the company’s ISO 17020-accredited inspection service.
  • Calibrating and validating other gas quality instrumentation at customer sites.
  • Analysing results and producing clear, accurate technical reports to support customers’ compliance requirements.
  • Preparing reference gas mixtures, transferring gas from parent cylinders into portable containers and verifying their contents using accredited procedures.
  • Coordinating with Sales, Logistics and other departments to deliver an organised, reliable service.
  • Maintaining accurate technical records, databases and documentation in accordance with the quality system.
  • Supporting audits where required.

Travel is a significant part of this position, including overnight stays, offshore work and international assignments. It will suit someone who enjoys working in different environments and is comfortable spending time away from home.

What you’ll bring

  • Good GCSEs and/or A-levels or Graduate in Mathematics and Science, or a strong equivalent academic foundation.
  • A practical, methodical approach to solving problems.
  • Strong attention to detail when handling equipment, analysing data and preparing reports.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with confidence working with customers and colleagues.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage changing priorities.
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel extensively.
  • A full UK driving licence.

Experience in field service, maintenance, instrumentation, calibration or another practical technical role could be useful, but previous gas industry experience is not essential.
