Reed Talent Solutions are working in partnership with United Utilities on the search for Regional Grounds Maintenance Operative workers in Walton le Dale.

Location: Wetheral WWTW

Contract: 12-month contract (with potential to go permanent thereafter)

Pay Rate: £15.09 per hour

Hours: 37h week

The role:

We are seeking a diligent and dedicated Regional Grounds Maintenance Operative. The successful candidate will play an integral role in ensuring the upkeep and aesthetic presentation of our various Wastewater treatment and Network sites. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, is confident using grounds maintenance equipment, and takes pride in delivering high-quality work that supports safety, performance and environmental standards.

The role requires you to have a full driving licence to allow you to travel to and from the required grounds.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Carry out a range of grounds maintenance tasks including vegetation control, soft landscaping and general site upkeep.
• Complete recovery works such as filter bed vegetation removal and pontoon activities (training provided where required).
• Operate and perform checks on a variety of plant, tools and machinery including mowers, strimmers, blowers, tractors, robots and trailers.
• Record completed work accurately on company systems.
• Undertake minor remedial repairs (e.g., flags, fencing) within competence and training.
• Support the onboarding and training of new starters.
• Adhere to all Health & Safety procedures, risk assessments and company policies.
• Identify site improvement opportunities and assist with winter work planning.
• Work closely with site staff and liaise with stakeholders to ensure high-quality outcomes.
• Apply and handle pesticides safely, including invasive weed management.
• Support the Team Leader in planning and delivering work to time, quality and budget standards.

What We’re Looking ForEssential Skills & Experience

• Practical experience in grounds maintenance, vegetation management or soft landscaping.
• Experience using grounds maintenance equipment (mowers, strimmers, hedge cutters, ride-on machinery, tractors, robotic kit).
• Good time management and ability to work to schedules.
• Strong communication skills and ability to build effective working relationships.
• Ability to dynamically risk assess and follow safety procedures.
• Good customer service skills.
• Full clean driving licence.
• Ability to tow trailers (or willingness to undertake training).
• Willingness to work towards chemical application qualifications (PA6/PA6INJ/PA6W).
• Willingness to work towards NPTC Level 2 Woodchipper competence if required.

Desirable

• City & Guilds, NVQ or Lantra qualifications in land-based or agricultural disciplines.
